Air Fryer French Fries

air fryer french fries with ketchup

Who doesn’t love a good French fry? There’s something magical about that perfect crunch paired with a fluffy interior that makes them irresistible. The beauty of making your own fries is that you control everything – the type of potato, the seasoning, and the cooking method.

For this recipe, I use russet potatoes because they have the perfect starchy balance that crisps up beautifully. The seasoning is a simple blend of olive oil, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper, transforming ordinary potatoes into something extraordinary. A sprinkle of fresh parsley at the end adds a pop of color and a hint of freshness. These spuds are then tossed in the air fryer. It promises the crispy texture of fried foods without the excessive oil and the mess.

Tips for Perfect Results

  • Soak the Potatoes: This might sound like an extra step, but soaking your sliced potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes removes excess starch and helps achieve that coveted crispy exterior.

  • Dry Them Well: After soaking, make sure to pat the potatoes dry thoroughly. Any excess moisture will steam rather than crisp the fries.

  • Even Slices: Consistency is key. Aim for uniform slices so they cook evenly.

  • Don’t Overcrowd: Give your fries some space! Overcrowding the basket will lead to uneven cooking. If you’re making a big batch, cook them in stages.

  • Shake, Shake, Shake: About halfway through the cooking process, give the basket a good shake to ensure all sides get that golden-brown goodness.

These air fryer French fries are perfectly crispy, delightfully seasoned, and incredibly easy to make. They’re the ideal snack or accompaniment to your favorite meals. Plus, they’re a hit with kids and adults alike – because who can resist a good French fry?

While these fries are fantastic on their own, they’re also incredibly versatile. Pair them with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup, aioli, or a spicy sriracha mayo. Or, serve them alongside a juicy burger, a fresh salad, or even as a topping for a hearty chili. So, next time you’re craving something crispy and comforting, ditch the takeout and try this recipe. Your taste buds will thank you!

Ingredients

  • 3 large russet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • fresh chopped parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Peel the potatoes (if preferred) and cut them into evenly sized fries, about 1/4 inch thick. Try to keep them uniform for even cooking.
  2. . Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes or up to several hours. This helps remove excess starch, making the fries crispier.
  3. Drain the potatoes and pat them very dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towel. The drier they are, the crispier they’ll get.
  4. In a large bowl, toss the fries with olive oil, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F for about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Place the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to cook them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Air fry for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  7. After 15 minutes, check the fries. If they are not crispy enough, cook for an additional 2-5 minutes, checking frequently.
  8. Once golden and crispy, remove the fries from the air fryer and place them on a plate. Sprinkle with extra salt if desired, and garnish with fresh parsley. Enjoy!
